Pilot Launch delivery......
Feb 28, 2008
Cheoy Lee recently completed the first unit in a series of three pilot boats destined for operation in Qatar. The now well proven and popular design was in fact the first collaboration between Cheoy Lee and naval architect Frank Mulder. A partnership that went on to produce such notable yachts as Cheoy Lee’s 125’Motoryacht “Janet”, the two “SeaShaw” projects at 145’ and 172’, and several other 100’+ yachts.
The pilot vessel is constructed with a rugged single skin GRP hull under Lloyds class survey. A very fine bow, round bilge hull and superstructure sited well aft ensures a very comfortable ride for the occupants even in severe conditions. Performance from the high speed round bilge hull form is also impressive, with the vessel achieving a top speed of 27 knots on sea trials. Propulsion is by twin Caterpillar diesels each developing 925hp at their heavy duty rating.
Over the years, utilizing their repertoire of well designed hulls, Cheoy Lee has built many pilot launches for major port operators and governments. They form stable platforms for pilots to board ships and to disembark. They are excellent sea boats. Four pilot launches are under construction for Singapore, adding to many of those that are already working there.
The remaining two 16.3m pilot vessels in this order will be delivered in April and May ’08.
