Fisheries Patrol Vessel for Brunei

Cheoy Lee yard #5034, KP ANUNAN, constructed for the Brunei Fisheries Department, departed Cheoy Lee’s Kowloon yard on March 15th, heading south on her 1400nm maiden voyage to Brunei. The vessel is designed for fisheries patrol. Four days (96 hours) after leaving Hong Kong, KP ANUNAN arrived in Brunei, averaging around 15 knots, after running down the eastern side of the South China Sea in the lee of the Philippines.

Powered by a pair of Caterpillar C32 diesels, each developing 1200hp, KP ANUNAN runs at 20 knots with the engines turning at just 1500rpm. Opening up to the maximum 2000rpm, these heavy duty de-rated engines propel the lightweight aluminium craft at over 30 knots, using a conventional shaft and fixed pitch propeller drive arrangement. AC electrical power is from a single diesel generator, running the powerful airconditioning system, to counter Brunei’s hot and humid environment, and equipment in the compact galley below decks forward.

Two double bottom integral fuel tanks hold a total of 4,700 litres of diesel, although this was supplemented with a further 7,500 litres of fuel stowed in containers lashed into the aft cockpit for the delivery voyage. The photos show the vessel shortly before departure from Hong Kong, exhibiting significant trim by the stern, although the situation normalised as the fuel stored in the cockpit was used up.

KP ANUNAN is an extension of a Cheoy Lee in-house design built for the Brunei Fisheries Department ten years ago, utilising the same five metre beam, but extending the hull length by two metres. A fifth crew bunk was added in the now larger crew accommodation space forward. The wheelhouse is also larger on this second vessel, although the overall configuration of the vessel is very similar to the first.
