Cheoy Lee Serenity 90 Expedition Yacht delivered in Hong Kong

Mar 11, 2011

On February 28th, Cheoy Lee handed over a Serenity 90 Expedition yacht. The yacht was built for an owner upgrading from his previous yacht, a Cheoy Lee Serenity 68 based in Adelaide, Australia. Construction was at Cheoy Lee’s 33 acre plant in Doumen, China with delivery at Cheoy Lee’s smaller shipyard in Hong Kong.

The 90’ is fitted with a pair of continuously rated Caterpillar C18 diesels, developing 600hp at 1800rpm. A 3.6:1 ZF reduction gearbox allows for a slow turning large diameter propeller, offering excellent fuel efficiency at cruising speed. At full load, at an easy 1200rpm, the yacht runs at over 10knots, consuming only 13 gallons per hour. Combined with 4,850gallons of fuel, the yacht has a range of 3500nm at 10 knots, and considerably more at reduced speed. Maximum speed is 14knots. The Serenity 90 Expedition offers large master and VIP staterooms aft of the engineroom, with a wet room and dive locker at the stern. The wet room is accessible from the integral swim deck, and also serves as the escape route from the master stateroom, via two watertight doors and bulkheads. Two equal twin guest staterooms are found either side of the central passage way forward of the engineroom, which then leads forward to two double crew staterooms, which, as per each guest stateroom have their own ensuite head. In the two twin forward guest staterooms, the owner has requested an additional pullman berth for each, folding up neatly against the inboard bulkhead when not in use, with only the high gloss teak base structure visible. The comfortable skylounge has also been redesigned to facilitate occasional use as a double stateroom. The second day head on this level was also expanded to include a shower for such eventualities. A total of 12 guests can be comfortably accommodated in five staterooms.

The skylounge opens out aft onto the sundeck, a huge entertainment area, featuring a full wet bar with bar seating, double barbeque and seating for up to eight guests around the expandable table. A fully equipped docking station is in the aft starboard corner of this deck. The pilothouse is forward of the skylounge, fully equipped with almost a full beam electronics console, Stidd helm chair and matching leather sofa. A large chart table, abundant storage, and excellent visibility from this location.

The interior décor on the yacht closely mimics the Sylvia Bolton designed interior on the owners Serenity 68. Syrupy high gloss teak, benefitting from Cheoy Lee’s new coating methods combine tastefully with leathers, traditional hull planking effects and cellulose wall coatings for a classic feeling interior. The yacht also features Cheoy Lee’s new range of dimmable LED lights throughout. These lights drastically reduce domestic power consumption, and, indirectly, reduce air-conditioning requirements on account of their very low heat output. Other features include a large foredeck, with a centrally mounted 2,200lb davit, comfortably housing a 5.5m Nouvarania RIB tender, a waverunner and Hobie Cat.
