More 58m (190 ft) Anchor Handling Tug / Supply Vessel deliveries
Following the delivery of Shark 30 in February, two more of these 2,600 tonne steel vessels are being handed over this April. Namely, the Kuwaiti registered sister ship to Shark 30 (Shark 40) and the Bahraini flagged Zamil 59, pictured. Zamil 59 being the first in a series of four sisterships for the same owner. The vessels are constructed to ABS class with the notation ABS+A1(E) + AMS FIFI 1 Towing and Anchor Handling Services. The rugged vessels are designed and built to operate in unrestricted waters, and in all seas and weathers in the Arabian Gulf.
Shark 40 is powered by two air start Caterpillar 3516B, 2,575hp diesels, turning two shaft driven Nakashima controllable pitch propellers. The Zamil vessels use twin Niigata 6L28HX engines each delivering 2,500hp, although the significant difference is that Zamil deliveries are propelled by Niigata azimuthing thrusters. In combination with the 12tonne Schottel bow thruster, these thrusters, offering full thrust in any required direction, impart excellent manoeuvrability and station keeping abilities. Maximum speed is 13knots in the lightship condition, with a cruising speed of 12knots. Range at cruising speed is in excess of 4,500nm on the vessels 400 tonne fuel load. Fuel treatment is by an Alpha Laval purification system. The three Caterpillar 320kW generating sets are each independently capable of supporting the ships loads. There is also a 72kW back-up set also serving as a harbour generator.
Deck winches are from MacGreggor Plimsoll, and include a 200tonne towing/anchor handling winch, 10tonne anchor windlass, two 10tonne tugger winches, and two 5tonne capstans. Towing equipment includes 200 tonne towing pins and a 250tonne Shark Jaw.
