Cheoy Lee Brings Traditional and Express Yachts to Palm Beach International Boat Show

Mar 17, 2014

Ft. Lauderdale, FL -- Cheoy Lee Shipyards has, demonstrated its penchant for combining contemporary design and the latest technology into a wide range of yachts. Its most recent foray into the Alpha Express Yacht line highlights the comfort of luxury, coupled with unexpected performance. Cheoy Lee will display March 20 through 31 at the 2014 Palm Beach International Boat Show, Ramp 6, slips 636-638.

Cheoy Lee’s long history of commitment to quality, technology and superior design led to the awarding of the prestigious World Yachts Trophy 2012 “Best Design - Sport Yacht up to 24 Meters” for the Alpha 76 Express. Those traits carry through the entire Cheoy Lee line and extend to the newest Alpha 87 Express Sportbridge and the Bravo Series motor yacht seen at the show.

The Cheoy Lee Difference

Cheoy Lee was a pioneer in the marine use of GRP/foam sandwich technology and innovations like resin infusion, recognizing and embracing the advantages: huge savings in weight and greater strength while eliminating the weaknesses of plywood often used in boat building.

The bulkheads and cabin soles of every Cheoy Lee yacht are built from the same exceptionally strong material as the hull and superstructure. Using resin-infused foam cored composites throughout, Cheoy Lee laminates the structure together as one in “monocoque” construction. The fuel tanks are integral to the hull in the lowest part of the bilge, creating a lower center of gravity and a double bottom over most of the hull as an additional safety feature. This shipbuilding technology produces the highest levels of structural strength and rigidity while allowing for precise control of weight, which is how Cheoy Lee achieves its superior performance and efficiency.

Alpha Series

The “Alpha” of the species for Cheoy Lee is its Alpha Series Express yachts, and with Michael Peters’ contribution as hull designer, Cheoy Lee achieved its goal: cutting edge design, innovative technology and a lust for performance. With top speeds in excess of 35 knots, the Alpha provides easy operation and a comfortable, stable ride. Interior elegance, luxury, and accommodations for six adults and crew, created by Luiz de Basto, sets the Alpha Series as a breed apart. (Available as 76 Express, 76 Express Flybridge, 87 Express Sportbridge)

87 Express Sportbridge

The newest of the line, the 87 Express Sportbridge took its open cockpit lines from the sleek 76’ Alpha Express Flybridge. Versatile options for upper and lower navigation in the dual platform hull provide wind-in-your-face thrill or enclosed comfort. A port staircase flows up to the flybridge where an unobstructed view provides pilot and passengers interaction in the sizable exterior lounge and forward settee.

Twin stairs lead from the open aft deck and spacious salon/galley to the swim platform and garage that houses a 12’ tender or personal watercraft, with optional remote controlled, easy hydraulic launch technology. Four staterooms with en suite heads and showers offer luxurious comfort and privacy. The aft, full-beam master has a king size bed, walk-in closet and head with a walk-in shower and double sinks. A queen VIP stateroom, a portside queen guest cabin and a starboard twin cabin, all furnished for ultimate comfort, providing unusual spaciousness. Easily accessible crew quarters lead directly to the engine room which houses impeccably rigged mechanical fixtures, all conveniently accessed for service.

Alpha 76 Express Flybridge

A traditional outdoor helm station and a covered upper deck add entertainment space aboard the Express 76 Flybridge. Sleek hull lines transition into the flared upper deck and the coaming lines mirror the shape of the hardtop for a fast looking silhouette--even at anchor. Three huge cabin suites, a day head and laundry room, complement the roomy forward bow seating and aft deck with a hot tub. A surprising amount of luxury in a yacht under 80 feet, easy enough for two-person operation.

Bravo Series

Fine entries and graceful bow flares are the trademarks of the Bravo Series Motoryachts. Generous lifting surfaces aft reduce the need for trim at transition speeds, providing the Bravo series with a dry, comfortable and efficient ride at any speed. Bravo Series Motoryachts are nimble, fuel efficient and responsive, creating total owner satisfaction. (sizes 65, 68, 78, 88, 95/103)

Bravo 88

A motoryacht with exceptional seaworthy characteristics, the Bravo 88 maintains elegance, style and function for a soft and dry ride. The centerline keel ensures precise tracking, even in the roughest seas. The lightweight, yet steel-like strength of resin infused construction make this a highly-efficient hull throughout the entire speed range. Four en suite staterooms can accommodate eight guests with plenty of stylish entertainment space, including optional hot tub and BBQ station on the flybridge and main decks. Two crew staterooms are located aft.

About Cheoy Lee:

Through 143 and seven generations, quality, technology, superior design and performance have been the cornerstones of Cheoy Lee’s heritage. In 1870, the company built steam-powered craft in Shanghai and later performance cargo vessels to outrun Japanese naval blockades. Cheoy Lee collaborated with the best naval architects, structural engineers and designers and in the 1950s, began producing teak sailing and motoryachts. Many still sail the waters today, a testament to the quality of construction and design that defines Cheoy Lee.

During the ‘60s, Cheoy Lee tested and developed fiberglass manufacturing techniques, displacing wood and strengthening its hulls. The company then pioneered the marine use of GRP/foam sandwich technology, with the milestone “Shango II,” the world’s then-largest, all GRP yacht at 130-feet. Two short years later, Cheoy Lee was innovating again with the first all-foam, cored production Cheoy Lee 48 Sport Yacht.
