Two new yachts launched

Oct 27, 2010

On Monday October 25th, Cheoy Lee launched two yachts, the 90 foot Serenity Expedition yacht, yard number 5016, and the 148 foot Mazu, at the Hin Lee yard in southern China.

Mazu was slipway launched at 10pm to take advantage of the slack tide to the auspicious crackle of fireworks, following the more routine launch, by Marine Travelift of yard #5016 earlier in the day.

Mazu will be handed over at the end of December 2010, while the 90 Expedition will be delivered early in 2011. Unlike the larger Mazu which will now stay in the water until hand-over, yard number 5016 will be hauled and re-launched several more times before completion. A slightly different procedure being adopted by the yard for production models, compared to the larger semi-custom vessels.

Propelled by a single heavy duty Caterpillar 3512B, the steel hulled full displacement yacht Mazu, has a weight saving and low maintenance composite superstructure. The highly efficient hull form, designed by renowned sail boat designer Ron Holland, has a cruising range in excess of 7000nm. Constructed to Lloyds class, with the notation +100A1 SSC Yacht Mono G6 + LMC and MCA this is truly a ‘go-anywhere’ yacht.

The master stateroom on Mazu is on the wheelhouse level. Aside from the wheelhouse, the entire deck, including the large open air aft deck, lounge, stateroom and head, is dedicated to the owner. The lower deck has three double guest staterooms and a gymnasium to maintain fitness during long voyages. Crew are accommodated forward on both the lower and main deck. The main deck also features a cinema, the saloon and dining areas, a full bar, as well as the comfortable aft deck with sofa seating and two elegant high gloss wood tables.

The Serenity 90 Expedition is for an owner upgrading from his previous yacht, a Cheoy Lee Serenity 68. The yacht was purchased through Cheoy Lee Yachts Australia, although delivery will be ex-yard Hong Kong. The 90’ is fitted with a pair of continuously rated Caterpillar C18 diesels, developing 600hp at 1800rpm. A 3.6:1 ZF reduction gearbox allows for a slow turning large diameter propeller, offering excellent fuel efficiency. Combined with 4,850gallons of fuel, the yachts 4500nm maiden voyage from Hong Kong to Adelaide can be made without any refuelling stops. The yacht offers large master and VIP staterooms, and two equal twin guest staterooms, to which the owner has requested an additional pullman berth for each. The comfortable skylounge has also been redesigned to facilitate occasional use as a double stateroom. A total of 12 gusets can therefore be comfortably accommodated in five staterooms, each with ensuite heads. There is also accommodation for a crew of four in the forward part of the yacht. Other features include a large foredeck, with a centrally mounted 2,200lb davit, housing a 5.5m RIB tender, a waverunner and Hobie Cat.
